Translators > Anne Dewey
Born in Copenhagen, I grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Of my early loves for philosophy and literature, the play of literary language won out, but translation bridges the two. After a B.A. in Comparative Literature summa cum laude (Yale, 1984), a Fulbright studying pre-Socratic influences on the poetry of Friedrich Hölderlin, and a Ph.D. in English and Humanities (Stanford, 1994), I moved to Madrid, where I teach English at Saint Louis University's Madrid Campus. While I will never lose my American accent, I now "live" in Spanish, English and the family Spanglish I share with my two children.
